Abu Dhabi: The countdown has begun for the resumption of service of Saudi Arabia’s Haramain high-speed railway. Scheduled to return in September, it is capable of hitting speeds of 300kph and is the largest and fastest rail line in the Middle East which transports vast numbers of travelers between the two holy cities of Mecca and Madinah, Saudi media reported.
The opening dates for reservations will be announced soon, with tickets available online via the Al Haramain Train website, while train stations in Mecca, Madinah, King Abdullah Economic City and King Abdulaziz Airport will be ready to once again receive commuters.
The 450km rail – which was inaugurated by King Salman bin Abdulaziz in September 2018 – links Mecca, Jeddah, King Abdullah Economic City, and Madinah.
It launched its commercial operations in October 2018 between Mecca and Madinah.
The railway will run at 300kph between King Abdullah Economic City and Madinah stations, reducing travel time between the new King Abdulaziz Airport station and Madinah station by around two hours, while Mecca and Madinah trips will be around two hours and 45 minutes.
All railways stations provide different facilities including business class lounges, parking, mosques and more.
