Dubai: Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq of Oman issued a decree approving the organisational structure of the Tax Authority, Oman News Agency announced on Tuesday.
The decree, which is part of recent reforms by Sultan Haitham since he assumed office in January 2020, marks a significant step towards developing the tax function in the country.
The move aims to reform the taxation system in the country.
Acting in response to the Sultanate's government directives to curb the impacts of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the Tax Authority has announced a package of measures to deal with the repercussions of the pandemic.
The new measures will help those subject to taxation to facilitate their obligations and spare them the penalties stipulated in law.
Measures include exemption from penalties and fines for not submitting declarations on time and for paying taxes specified within a maximum period of three months from its due date.
It is also now permissible to pay taxes in instalments and such payments are exempt from the additional penalties, in cases where it is proven that payments were affected due to COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the supreme committee to combat the coronavirus has decided to allow government employees to work from home, except for those whose work requires them to be at their offices, as of Wednesday, April 1.
The decision was taken during the committee meeting chaired by Hamoud Bin Faisal Al Busidi, Minister of Interior. The meeting aimed at discussing the latest developments on the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus, and present solutions to weather the outbreak of the virus and limit its aftermaths.
The committee instructed private establishments to take the necessary measures to reduce the number of workforce to the minimum level.
